Maharashtra State Government holds a state level drama competition
The Maharashtra State Government holds a state level drama competition every year for about last forty years. It is a phenomenon in itself. Atul participated in this competition from 1989 to 1992 and won 5 Best Actor Awards and 1 Best Director Award in these competitions.
The play 'Gandhi Viruddha Gandhi' gave Atul 8 Best Actor Awards for the year 1996. It is a record in Marathi Professional Theatre.
First National Award

Atul received his first National Award For Best Actor In A Supporting Role in the year 1999 for the film Hey Ram. K. R. Narayanan, the then Honorable President of India felicitating Atul Kulkarni
Second National Award

In the year 2002, Atul received his second National Award For Best Actor In A Supporting Role for the film Chandni Bar. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Honorable President of India felicitating Atul Kulkarni
